So do you guys ever have those days where you feel like the biggest jerk in America? Today was definately one of those days for me, you know what I mean? Well, after IJM Chapel today, I'm walking through the campus center with Justin and Sarah C. and Joey when Zach comes up and grabs me and says "I HAVE to show you something!!!" He drags me over to the Freshens Yogurt area where there is a guy I've had in class before [and, shamefully yes, I already have a bad impression of him] with a sign in orange highligher on white computer paper that says "REPUBLICANS ARE EVIL LIARS". I asked him why he had this sign on his computer, and he responded "It's an assignment". And when I found out he had no intelligble answer much farther than "I don't really care" and "All people are evil liars" my attitude didnt' really improve much. Shamefull, isn't it?
This is just another example of my hammering someone who probably didn't quite deserve it. I need to be more careful of how I use my gifts I think. But, what should I do? I mean, yes I can walk away, but there are people out there DYING because they just want to speak or vote or walk in freedom and without fear and this uneducated indivdual is NOT taking advantage of his freedom of speech to advocate for antyhing or anyone - just to incite anger and resentment so he can write it down in his Pokeman notebook. No. I'm sorry, just NO.

What?!? I'm sure he is feeling very oppressed by Republicans, what with all the pain and suffering they are inflicting on him while he sits at his laptop in the middle of the food court of an expensive, private, liberal arts university. Poor guy. He has NO rights.

p.s. IJM chapel has been out for, what? An hour now and already two posts? You're on fire.
Living in a free and open society requires people not only have the right to free speech, but the responsibility to exercise their right to it. In fact, despite your political opinion, you MUST embrace discourse like this because it is the one sure way of losing your right to do it. You must embrace this because in any other point in our national history it could have just as easily been a lone black person sitting in a crowded room, full of racists, quietly, peacefully displaying his sign: "White People Are All Evil Liars." While it is obviously a false statement, it certaintly is powerful and the ACT of doing it is worth one thousand times more than the words written on the paper. I'm not writing this to say that Republicans are evil, nor liars, but simply to say that when people reject and condemn actions such as this one THAT is where you will find injustice.

PS: I did use the analogy of Republicans and racists. Before you go knee-jerk on me, just spend a few seconds to examine this: a small minority circumfrenced by a large group of group who all share an identity and their dogged tendencies towards abuse of the minority, and what they stand for. And if you don't think the vast majority of ACU's campus is abusive towards Democrats, then I'll go through a long list of abuses I've suffered here, and I'm an independent.
Finally, if that doesn't convince you
